OPay has explained how Nigerians can check their eligibility for the Federal Government’s N50,000 monthly cash assistance programme while warning customers against fraudsters seeking to exploit the intervention.
The fintech company said the financial support is being distributed under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), which is designed to assist vulnerable Nigerians who meet the government’s eligibility requirements.
According to a report by Punch published on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, OPay disclosed that qualified customers would receive a notification on the homepage of their mobile application.
Beneficiaries who receive the notification are expected to open it and follow the instructions provided to proceed with the payment process.
However, the company clarified that customers who do not receive the notification are not currently eligible for the intervention.
OPay also stressed that the government, rather than the fintech company, is responsible for determining beneficiaries.
How to Check Eligibility Through OPay
In a statement shared on its official X account, OPay advised customers to check their eligibility through its mobile application or by dialling the USSD code 95520#.
Customers who qualify are expected to receive an in-app notification containing further instructions.
Nigerians seeking additional information about the programme were advised to contact the NERSI support line on 0700-022-2222.
OPay Warns Nigerians Against N50,000 Grant Scams
The company warned customers against individuals demanding confidential banking information or payments before releasing the government assistance.
OPay emphasised that neither its employees nor representatives would request customers’ personal identification numbers (PINs) or one-time passwords (OTPs) to facilitate the payment.
Customers were also advised to avoid suspicious links and agents claiming to have special access to the programme.
FG Begins NERSI Cash Assistance Payments
The Federal Government recently announced the commencement of payments under NERSI.
On October 30, 2026, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, said the initiative was designed to provide financial relief to households affected by rising food prices and the increasing cost of essential commodities.
Under the arrangement, eligible beneficiaries are expected to receive N50,000, with the intervention subject to periodic reviews based on prevailing economic conditions.
Doro said the ministry was working with licensed digital financial service providers to ensure that beneficiaries received their payments securely.
Selected individuals would reportedly receive SMS notifications from approved providers requesting their consent before the money was transferred into their bank accounts or mobile wallets.
Other Platforms Participating in the Programme
Other participating financial service platforms include ALAT by Wema Bank, MoMo PSB, NairaGram and Moniepoint.
The eligibility-checking USSD codes provided for the platforms are:
- OPay: 95520#
- ALAT by Wema Bank: 94523#
- MoMo PSB: 6710#
- NairaGram: 72600#
- Moniepoint: 557327#
How the Government Selects Beneficiaries
The government has explained that beneficiary selection is based on verified national identity information and the National Social Register.
Consequently, Nigerians do not need to complete fresh registration exercises or pay agents to secure a place among the beneficiaries.
Authorities have also advised citizens to protect their Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs), PINs, OTPs and other sensitive financial information.
The government said payments are being released in stages, meaning eligible beneficiaries may receive notifications at different times.
Nigerians seeking clarification about the intervention can contact the NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.
